All Anglers need ‘Tackle’, the term used to collectively describe all of the equipment used to catch fish.

Years ago, before modern manufacturing methods allowed specialist items of tackle to be made inexpensively for very specific uses, fishing tackle was made to cover a wide range of fishing situations but now the choice can be overwhelming.

The reality, though, is that you don’t need lots of specialist tackle to catch fish, two rods, two reels (or even only one of each) plus a small selection of floats, leger weights, hooks, shot, line and the all-important disgorger are all you need to get started.

If you are lucky enough to have a well stocked fishing tackle shop near where you live, after reading this guide you can go there and look at the various items available. If not, there are a lot of online retailers of fishing tackle, one I use is Tackle Bargains at tacklebargains.co.uk, they have a wide range and the prices are good. Many of the larger online retailers also have eBay shops, as well as a lot of specialised smaller retailers, so you’re sure to find everything you need, and you can compare prices side by side to make sure you get the best deal.
